A restaurant meaning “Friend” in Spanish, surely this sets the tone. Set in the heart of Wanaka’s village, Nikki and her team have created the epitome of every parents dining dreams with a huge lawn within view from every table, colouring activities for children and staff who really engage with children.  Amigo’s provides wind and sun sheltered outdoor seating with a view right up the Wanaka’s beautiful lake.  More seating is available inside during those snowy months beside the cosy fire, amongst Mexican themed backdrops.

The staff are warm, welcoming and more than happy to help. It’s like one big happy family at Amigo’s. Your name is remembered and every celebration celebrated! The food is your typical Mexican grub; nachos, quesadillas, tostadas, ribs, chimichangas, comidas and enchiladas, it’s hard not to embrace the theme as the words roll off your tongue.  As a health nut this would not be my first choice for heart and cellulite saving fuel, yet there are basic salad and steak options. Gluten or dairy free options and an extensive bar make this a winner for families and large groups. This would not be the setting for a romantic evening, but if it is a general good time you are after then Amigo’s is a great choice.

Best dish recommendation: The South Western Crispy Tostada - a green salad with fresh guacamole, covered with freshly grilled chicken and the secret Amigo’s sauce, all served in a crunchy, edible nacho bowl. When else in life are you allowed to eat the bowl?!

Overall score: 7/10

Positioned on the lake front of Wanaka this sophisticated restaurant manages to combine uniqueness and traditional in one spell binding state for your dining experience. The meals are stemmed from basic home made food, with a dynamic chef that twists them into healthy, flavoursome, elegantly manicured meals. A local favourite when the budget allows, and a common spot to return to when travelling through town.

With beautiful oak floors, a stunning lake view, very professional and friendly staff, appropriate background music and an all day menu, Relishes is your perfect answer for a coffee and cake or beautiful meal.

The local owners Tash and Toby Lahood have designed Healthy smoothies, breakfast bowls, eggs Benedict, delicious salads and open sandwiches, pork, lamb, duck, steak and vegetarian options, everyones choice is covered.  I’m certain their head chef must dream in flavours!

Catering to large groups, romantic dinners and well behaved families one will not be disappointed. With elegant seating both inside and out, you will be very comfortable. Well trained Baristas are right on the pulse with coffee and the exclusive wine, beer and cocktail list offers the right taste for everyone.

Best dish recommendation: Currently the coconut and fennel pork dish is my favourite. The sides are every changing based on what is seasonally averrable and growing in their organic garden. With crackling to make you melt and flavours that blow your mind, you simply cannot go past this option.
